Account & password management can be done at the RU NetID Management site https://netid.rutgers.edu . ACADEMIC SYSTEMS
There will be various academic systems that you will be using throughout your time here at NJMS. Below is just a quick summary.

The Education Portal: https://ep.njms.rutgers.edu . Most all academic systems can be accessed via the Education Portal, and most will have single sign-in. Please make sure you login first by clicking on the “Login” tab over on the left in the top nav. Moodle will require a separate login. Remember to logout and close your browser when done.

Education Management System (EMS or EduMan) is the main system used for Evaluations, Grade Book, rotation Lotteries and the Dean’s Letter.

Clinical Encounters Logging (CEL) is an electronic log system to record and provide reports to clerkship directors on all students’ clinical experiences.

Moodle is the course management system for all your course material, lecture slides, etc.

SOCRATES is a Searchable Online Curriculum Repository and Teaching Encounters System – i.e., a repository of all teaching material that can be searched for keywords to see where certain topics and material were taught across all years.
.
Video@NJMS is an internal video repository that houses all current and archived podcasts for all courses.

Virtual Microscopy houses electronic slide images for Histology and Pathology.

CAMPUS WIFI CONNECTION
WiFi is available throughout the RBHS campus. Your device should pick up the ‘RUHealthSciences’ SSID connection. Simply choose this option and use your NetID and password to connect to WiFi. All first years have been pre-registered for this wireless connection.

The alternate WiFi SSID RUWireless Secure can also be used for Internet access but please note only RUHealthSciences is configured to allow you access to all the electronic assets that you will need as a student so there may be some electronic assets you cannot access under RU Wireless Secure. Please see RU Wireless for more information on how to connect to that network. All other wireless SSIDs should NOT be used.

NOTE: For electronic exams (ExamSoft, NBME), you can use either RUHealthSciences or RU Wireless Secure. Please make sure you can connect ahead of time to either or both. DO NOT USE RU Wireless (the one that requires a log in through a pop-up web page).

If you are a resident in the 180 Market Street dorm, both RUHealthSciences and RU Wireless Secure should be available.

CLASSROOM TECHNOLOGY
The large lecture halls (B552 – 2nd Years, B556 – 1st Years) have technology in the podium to record, render, and post podcasts of lectures. A copy is posted to Video@NJMS that same day.

Also, some courses use the TurningPoint audience response system. Students can respond to questions using a registered mobile device through the app or website.

In addition, there is AV student on hand in each course for both class years as well as general AV staff either in the class or nearby in B502 in the MSB lobby by the escalators.

The Clinical Skills and Simulation Center is housed in ADMC building 9.

Mersive Solstice is a wireless collaboration tool available in the MSB B540B-D-F small PBL Rooms that supports BYOD content sharing to the main screen in the room. Through the Solstice app, multiple users can wirelessly connect (through RUHealthSciences) laptops and mobile devices of any operating system. Download the appropriate app per operating system at their website. Instructions are available and posted in the specified rooms. However, if you have any questions or need assistance, you can contact IT@NJMS AV at njmavc@njms.rutgers.edu or at 2-4340. They are also located right around the corner from these rooms in B502.

COMPUTER LABS and PRINTERS
The Medical Science Building (MSB) has two computer labs accessible to all students. A general computer lab open to all located on C–level, room C632 (next to the escalators). Phone: (973) 972-6789. Hours are generally 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Weekend coverage is usually 12:00 pm to 5:00 pm and is posted at the entrance. And a NJMS computer lab open to only medical students located on A-level, room A555. The main NJMS IT Office is across the hall in A550. Access is by ID card, 24×7. Any issue with access, contact Facilities at 2×4795.

Both labs have printers and there are printers in the library as well. All printers are part of the PaperCut print quota system. Students are allocated $25 annually (500 pages at $.05 cents a page). Additional pages can be purchased. In order to use your ID Card for Quick Release of print jobs, you must first auto-associate your ID card with the PaperCut system. You can do this in either the Library or in the MSB C Level computer lab. There should be a computer / printer designated for this. Go to that device, swipe your ID card, at the keyboard or tablet, enter your NetID and password, then submit.

EMAIL, MOBILE MESSAGING, SCARLETAPPS
Email can be accessed either directly at Rutgers Connect or through the Rutgers portal . If the latter, click on the Connect O365 icon over on the left under the Welcome tab.

See Mobile Device Management on how to get the new Rutgers Connect email on your iOS or Android mobile phone. Please note the warning regarding the incompatibility of the MDM system with removable media cards and Android phones in the documentation.

Please note, the Scarlet Apps email account is a separate account and not tied to your RBHS / NJMS email account. Currently, ScarletApps is not used at NJMS.

EXAMS
All national exams will be using NMBE software and all unit exams will be using ExamSoft Examplify. Please see this Reference doc regarding minimum requirements for laptops for using either software as well as some basic troubleshooting tips for NBME laptop compatibility testing.

PORTALS
The NJMS Educational Portal provides access to most all of your Academic systems.
The Rutgers Portal provides access to your email, financial aid info, and more.

SOFTWARE
Besides a general Software Portal, RU offers Symantec anti-virus to students through the RU Antivirus Delivery Service (RADS)

Also as part of Rutgers Connect, you have access to download Office through your Connect account. Click on the O365 icon and you should see a download link in the upper right hand corner.

OTHER
The central Rutgers Office of Information Technology (OIT) also provides general IT products and services to the student community. For more information, please see their Tech Guide

Library Resources http://www.libraries.rutgers.edu/smith

Student events can be posted on the digital signage monitors by contacting LaCarla Donaldson of NJMS Marketing at donaldla@njms.rutgers.edu .

Finally, Phishing. Please be mindful of phishing scams. It is important to look closely at all emails asking you to click on a link and enter credentials. Typical recent examples ask you to take action on things like … Read an Important Message, Pick Up an Important File or Docs, Verify or Upgrade Your Account, Immediate Action Required else your Account will be Closed, Mailbox is Nearing its Quota, Pickup your Rutgers Course Docs here (frequently Blackboard), etc. If you are unsure, it’s better to be cautious and seek clarification. You can always forward (as an attached file*) suspicious email to either njmsts@njms.rutgers.edu or abuse@rutgers.edu .

* Open up a new message and then drag the suspicious message into the body of the new msg.
