There will be various academic systems that you will be using throughout your time here at NJMS. Below is just a quick summary. For more information, see the full Academic Systems page.
Education Management System (EMS or EduMan) – this is the main system used for Evaluations, Grade Book, rotation Lotteries and the Dean’s Letter. It can be accessed thru either the Rutgers portal within the Education tab as well as from the NJMS Intranet .
Clinical Encounters Logging (CEL) – this is an electronic log system to record and provide reports to clerkship directors on all students’ clinical experiences. Access is through the NJMS Intranet .
Moodle – this is the course management system for all your course material, lecture slides, etc.
Video@NJMS – this is an internal video repository that houses all current and archived podcasts for all courses.
Virtual Microscopy – this site houses electronic slide images for Histology and Pathology.
CAMPUS WIFI CONNECTION
WiFi is available throughout the RBHS campus. Your device should pick up the ‘RUHealthSciences’ SSID connection. Simply choose this option and use your NetID and password to connect to WiFi. Please note, you must register for wireless access at the RBHS IT Registration site before connecting. Click the drop down and select Wireless Access.
Other WiFi SSIDs such as RUWireless & RUWireless Secure are also available and can be used for Internet access but please note only RUHealthSciences is configured to allow you access to all the electronic assets that you will need as a student. If you are on RUWireless or RUWireless Secure you may not be able to reach certain things. Please see RU Wireless for more information on how to connect to those networks.
NOTE: For electronic exams (ExamSoft, NBME), you can use either RU Health Sciences or RU Wireless Secure. Please make sure you can connect ahead of time to either or both. DO NOT USE RU Wireless (the one that requires a log in through a pop-up web page).
If you are a resident in the 180 Market Street dorm, RUHealthSciences should now be available there along with RU Wireless and RU Wireless Secure.
The large lecture halls (B552 – 2nd Years, B556 – 1st Years) have technology in the podium to record, render, and post podcasts of lectures. A copy is posted to Video@NJMS . Also, some courses use the Audience Response System. Students can respond to questions using any registered mobile device. In addition, there is AV student on hand in each course for both class years as well as general AV staff nearby in B502 in the MSB lobby.
The Clinical Skills and Simulation Center is housed in ADMC building 9.
COMPUTER LABS and PRINTERS
The Medical Science Building (MSB) has two computer labs accessible to all students. A general computer lab open to all located on C–level, room C632 (next to the escalators). Phone: (973) 972-6789. Hours are generally 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Weekend coverage is usually 12:00 pm to 5:00 pm and is posted at the entrance. And a NJMS computer lab open to only medical students located on A-level, room A555. Access is by ID card, 24×7. Any issue with access, contact Facilities at 2×4795.
Both labs have printers and there is a printer in the library as well. All printers are part of the PaperCut print quota system. Students are allocated $25 annually (500 pages at $.05 cents a page). Additional pages can be purchased. In order to use your ID Card for Quick Release of print jobs, you must first auto-associate your ID card with the PaperCut system. You can do this in either the Library or in the MSB C Level computer lab. There should be a computer / printer designated for this. Go to that device, swipe your ID card, at the keyboard, enter your NetID and password, then submit.

Please note, the Scarlet Apps email account is a separate account and not tied to your RBHS / NJMS email account. Currently, ScarletApps is not used at NJMS.
This year all national exams will be using NMBE software and all unit exams will be using ExamSoft. Please see this Reference doc regarding minimum requirements for laptops for using either software as well as some basic troubleshooting tips for NBME laptop compatibility testing.
The NJMS Intranet provides access to CEL and EMS.
The Rutgers Portal provides access to your email, EMS, financial aid info, and more.
Also, as part of Rutgers Connect, you should have access to the cloud versions of Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. If you want local programs, Rutgers offers a 4-year Academic Subscription available at the Software Portal
