O365, KACE

The university is moving to Office 365, a cloud based email and calendaring system. Currently, RBHS users are either on Exchange (Outlook) or Sun mail while legacy Rutgers are on many different systems. A decision was made to try to consolidate upwards of 50 email systems down to as few as possible. O365 was chosen as the primary option for all faculty and staff, which would also include all NJMS students and residents. Google mail, which is currently used by all legacy Rutgers students, would also remain, with all other email systems retired.

What that means for most NJMS and GSBS faculty, staff, and students is that we will be mirroring our current Exchange (Outlook) environment. Though there are still details to be ironed out, I am told that we would still be able to use a local Outlook client to view our mail and access our local mail archives, as opposed to only being able to use a web browser. Email would still have to be migrated from our local Exchange email servers to Microsoft O365 email servers.

Dell KACE has been chosen as the Enterprise Device Management tool. It is used currently at legacy Rutgers and will be replacing the legacy UMDNJ LANDesk application. It allows for things like pushing patches out to computers, remote Help Desk assistance, and other IT functionality in the support of maintaining computer hardware & software.
